My friend Lori is having her second child in less then 2 weeks, I finished up the quilt for the baby over the weekend and shipped it out yesterday. She got it today which means I can share it with you!
I wanted to find a unique design, something fun, since Lori sew's I knew this couldn't be just a patchwork quilt... even though she still would've loved it.
This design was a little more involved but I love the effect! The fabrics including the binding and sashing around the squares on the front are all Riley Blake and the dark espresso brown is Kona cotton. I decided to make the quilt reversible... and look, there is some patchwork...
I bought a half yard bundle of these fabrics and had enough for the front and the back. It was really a great use of fabric and a wonderful reversible treasure in the end.
Lori knew I was making a quilt for her, but had no idea what it would look like. She ordered a custom runner from me for the top of a dresser in the baby's room and just asked that it matched or complimented the quilt. I decided not to do all brown out to the binding since the dresser it's going on is also a deep brown. I think it added just enough contrast...
plus it's reversible too! I think I love the back just as much as I love the front, I'd have a hard time picking which side to put up, luckily it's not for me ;)
If you couldn't tell by the colors of the quilt and runner, Lori is having a boy. Her daughter Veronica and my little guy Jackson are best of buds, if you follow my blog I'm sure you've seen many photos of the two of them over the years. They are 4 months apart and our new little guys will be just 3 months apart!
The countdown is on Lori!!! Good Luck and Can't wait to meet your little boy!

Thanks so much!!! I absolutely LOVE the quilt and the runner and they are the perfect finish to the baby's nursery!!
I love the contrast! And that it is truly reversible. Bravo, yet again, quilt master McCane. I can't even imagine what cool design your own bun in the oven is going to get!
Those are gorgeous - and honestly, I thought they were totally gender neutral colors. The quilt and runner could totally go either way (in my book), and be equally loved by a bundle of boy or a bundle of girl.
love the reversible quilt idea...great colors and patterns. very nicely done! (of course :))
