Blogger's Quilt Festival

For the quilt festival I decided to share my favorite quilt I've made this year...
Jackson's Birthday Quilt

I recently made this quilt for my son's 2nd birthday. It's a large quilt for a little boy, but I wanted to make him something he will have for years to come.
I loved working on this quilt, the colors are my favorites and the fabrics are so fun.
The pattern for this quilt is from the book Seams to me by Anna Maria Horner. This quilt measures 62" x 75". The fabrics were ducks and circles from Lizzy house. Cars by Michael Miller. Riley Blake and Keri Beyer fabric in dots, gears and space themes. It's a big fun mish mosh of sorts, all things my little guy loves.
The back is coal Kona cotton with some log cabin squares in Peridot and everglade Kona. The binding is almost all everglade with a small strip of peridot on the bottom right side in the photo.
The whole quilt is pebble quilted and gave me quite the upper body work out, trying to move this whole quilt through my sewing machine.... phew! Oh and thread... I used at least 15 bobbins and one full large spool of Guterman thread. That's a lot of thread, but it's one sturdy quilt! I added a special tag just for the occasion and embroidered a little rocket ship.
Update 5/22:: Just to answer a few questions about the buildings in the background of my photo shoot.... These photos were taken at the Bethlehem Steel in my home town of Bethlehem PA. The Blast furnaces are the huge structure that is behind the quilt, and the gears are some fun newer accents that have been placed in the sidewalks (they are suppose to be adding an outside shopping area of sorts to this area, since the Bethlehem Steel is not in operation anymore). A few fun facts about the Bethlehem Steel:: The blast furnaces can be seen in the opening fight scene in Transformers two. We had fun watching them film those scenes as you could watch helicopters soaring all around the furnaces. Also if you have ever heard the song Allentown by Billy Joel He references the steel when it was closing:
Well we're living here in Allentown
And they're closing all the factories down
Out in Bethlehem they're killing time
Filling out forms
Standing in line
Well our fathers fought the Second World War
Spent their weekends on the Jersey Shore
Met our mothers in the USO
Asked them to dance
Danced with them slow
And we're living here in Allentown

To get back to browsing quilts go here, and if you are new to the quilt festival go here as well, you can visit many other blogs participating in the festival and see so many beautiful quilts.... very inspiring!

What a great quilt for a very lucky little boy. I like all the geometrics-in both the fabrics and the blocks. They say these graphics designs help give young minds a work out.
